Middle School (6th – 8th grade) Humanities Teacher

South Peninsula Hebrew Day School is seeking a dynamic and passionate middle school (6th – 8th grade) humanities teacher to join our team for the 2022-2023 school year.
Our school’s educational philosophy is focused on nurturing the whole student; providing a challenging and innovative curriculum designed to inspire students to create, critically think, and solve real world problems; and developing 21st century skills in our students.
In our middle school, we match rigor with technology and exploration to prepare our students for high school. We aim to elevate higher order thinking skills in students, as well as increase content knowledge across historical and literary developments throughout the ages.

Main responsibilities:
The middle school humanities teacher is responsible for leading and engaging students in dynamic lessons with a special focus on building writing and research skills as well as critical thinking and communication skills.
The teacher is responsible for designing curricular content and lessons, which engage a variety of levels and differentiate appropriately to meet the learning needs of all students.

Job requirements and qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree/certification desired in education, English or related field
Be a credentialed teacher
Have a strong background in humanities with the ability to bring in elements of technology and research skills into the classroom
At least three years of teaching experience, preferably at middle school level
Have experience in a diversified middle school classroom
Have strong classroom management skills

Founded in 1972, South Peninsula Hebrew Day School is a modern Orthodox institution that embraces the sophistication and multiculturalism of the Bay Area while adhering to traditional Jewish observance.

Our Judaic studies program includes both Hebrew language and Jewish text. Hebrew language study begins in the earliest grades.
Its goal is to provide children a high degree of bilingualism and to enrich their understanding of Jewish history, culture and religion.
